A typical laminate plank consiste of a top melamine layer, under it is the film layer. This is the layer that gives the look of the laminate. It’s a printed film that gives the floor the look of a real wood or tile. The inner core is generally made from high-density fiberboard and also forms the tongues and grooves for locking planks together. The core is also the base that all the upper layers and the backing material are fused too. Some manufacturers treat the inner core with melamine resins or water-resistant sealers to help protect the inner core from moisture. Then there is another layer of melamine in the bottom.
Laminate floors are installed in floating method. Floating refers to the floating installation method, where the individual planks are locked together but never attached to the subfloor underneath. Laminate floors have a special tongue and groove locking system that tightly join the planks & tiles together. No glue, nails or staples needed. They need a pad underneath. Some laminate have the pads alreday attached.
These are all laminate floors.
